About

Hello and welcome to my website!

Here is some information about what I do. Please feel free to pick up the phone and give me a call for a chat any time on 07970 651717, or email me fujiirose@gmail.com

A bit of background... I was a professional classical (oratorio/recital/opera) singer (lyric Mezzo Soprano) for almost 20 years, performing with companies including Glyndebourne Festival Opera and Touring Opera, Scottish Opera, European Chamber Opera, Opera Brava, various festivals, the Raymond Gubbay Arena productions at the Royal Albert Hall etc.  Roles included Carmen, Dido, Orfeo, Meg Page, Rosina, Cherubino, Madam Larina, Marcellina. Oratorio solos included the Dream of Gerontius, Dvorak Stabat Mater, Pergolesi Stabat Mater, Elijah, Bach B Minor Mass, Vivaldi Gloria, Mozart C Minor Mass. Many recitals included songs and song cycles by Schumann, Schubert, Rossini, Bellini, Michael Head, Ravel, Britten, Sibelius, Granados, Falla and many more. Prior to that, I worked as an actor and musical theatre performer for several years in the UK and toured in Europe.

I have always loved teaching alongside performing and was very fortunate to gain a substantial technical grounding in the Husler school (with leading exponents Peter Harrison, Joy Mammen and Elizabeth Brice) in the late 1980s/90s, which has stood me in very good stead throughout. I subsequently continued my vocal studies with Diane Forlano and David Pollard. To continue my development as a teacher, I completed the Estill Level One and Two courses in 2018 and in 2019 the CPD Accredited Classical Voice Training (CVT) flagship SATS  teachers' course led by Professor Janice Chapman, International Bass and CVT Director James Platt, and Estill CMT Andy Follin. I am constantly striving to update and expand my knowledge of the voice and vocal technique, alongside an instinctive understanding as a long time singer and performer.

Though I still perform from time to time, my passion now is teaching. I also run - together with wonderful colleagues Peter Osborn and Jonathan Cohen - regular weekend workshops in a beautiful location just outside London (please see our website www.singingandwellbeing.com for more details, photos, video clips and biographical details. Courses at various levels run throughout the year. (**Beginning again July 2021)

For private one to one lessons I teach at home in Acton, West London and am very happy to welcome potential students for a free consultation - whether you are a professional/intending professional, student, member of a choir/keen amateur singer or someone who loves to sing and would like to improve what you do, I would love to help you. My focus is very much on technique plus encouragement, support and the enjoyment of singing. All levels are very welcome.

I work on postural alignment, connecting to your true sound, breathing and support using the correct muscles, articulation, and resonance, as well as developing your confidence, expression and interpretation. My students include all levels of ability across different genres, though my focus is predominantly on classical singing technique. I offer a lot of support and encouragement to help you to develop in your own way and at your own pace.
